Probability

Probability tells how likely something is to happen, from 0 (impossible) to 1 (certain). Flipping a coin has a 1 in 2 chance of heads.

๐Ÿ’ก Fun fact

The chance of rolling a 6 on a fair die is 1 in 6.

All about Probability

Probability measures how likely an event is to happen. It is a number from 0, which means impossible, to 1, which means certain. Something with a 50% chance is as likely to happen as not.

When you flip a fair coin, there are two equally likely outcomes, so the chance of heads is 1 in 2, or one half. Probability does not guarantee what will happen next, but it helps us predict what is likely over many tries.

Frequently asked questions about Probability

What is the probability of rolling a 6 on a fair dice?

One in six, or about 0.17. There are six equally likely outcomes.

Does a coin land on heads more often after tails?

No. Each flip is independent, so the chance stays the same, even after a long run of tails.

How is probability written?

As a fraction, decimal or percentage. 1/2, 0.5 and 50% all mean the same chance.
