DNA and Genes

DNA is a code inside your cells that holds instructions for how your body grows. You inherit your DNA from your parents.

๐Ÿ’ก Fun fact

Humans share about 99.9% of their DNA with each other.

All about DNA and Genes

DNA is a long, twisted molecule found in the nucleus of your cells. It holds the code that tells your body how to grow and work. The DNA is arranged in sections called genes, and each gene carries instructions for a particular trait.

You inherit half of your DNA from each parent, which is why you may have your mother's smile or your father's hair colour. Identical twins share almost exactly the same DNA, while brothers and sisters share about half.

Deoxyribonucleic acid. It is made of four chemical bases, abbreviated A, T, C and G.

Is DNA the same in all living things?

All living things use DNA, but the sequence of bases is different in each species and in each person.

Can DNA change?

Yes. Small changes, called mutations, can happen by chance or because of exposure to things like strong sunlight.
