All about The Aztecs

The Aztec Empire flourished in central Mexico from the 1300s until the 1500s. Its capital, Tenochtitlan, was built on an island in Lake Texcoco and connected to the shore by causeways. It was one of the largest cities in the world at the time.

The Aztecs farmed on chinampas, which were raised fields made in shallow lake water, sometimes called floating gardens. They traded widely, built temples and kept records in picture writing. The empire was defeated by Spanish conquistadors and their allies in 1521.
