All about Time Zones
Earth spins around once every day, so the Sun appears to move across the sky. Different places face the Sun at different times, which means it can be daytime in one place and night in another. Time zones divide the world so that clocks match the local daylight.
The world is roughly divided into 24 time zones, one for each hour of the day. Moving east means clocks go forward, and moving west means they go back. Some countries use half-hour offsets, such as India, which is 5.5 hours ahead of UTC.

Frequently asked questions about Time Zones
Why are there 24 time zones?
Earth takes about 24 hours to spin once, and each hour of the day corresponds to roughly 15 degrees of longitude.
What is UTC?
Coordinated Universal Time, the standard time used around the world as a reference for other time zones.
Why do some countries not use daylight saving time?
Some places are close to the equator, where day length changes very little, so changing the clocks makes less sense.
