All about Tides

Tides are the regular rise and fall of the sea level. They are caused mainly by the Moon's gravity pulling on the oceans, and to a smaller extent by the Sun's gravity. As Earth turns, the water bulges in different places, creating high and low tides.

Most coastal places have two high tides and two low tides each day, about every 12 hours and 25 minutes. The highest tides, called spring tides, happen when the Sun, Moon and Earth line up.
