All about Pirates

Pirates were sea robbers who attacked and seized ships to steal treasure, cargo and goods. The so-called Golden Age of Piracy, between about the 1650s and 1730s, saw many pirates active in the Caribbean and along the Atlantic coasts of the Americas.

Real pirates often had their own rules, shared their loot among the crew and even voted on decisions. Pirate flags, known as Jolly Roger flags, were used to warn ships to surrender. Many of the famous legends are exaggerated in stories and films.
